Spent New yr's eve and new yr day in the Temburong jungle doing a navigation exercise. Split into groups of six to seven, we were given checkpoints to locate ( quite like Amazing Race, minus the glamour and modes of transport. ) bleah.. ie: HAVE TO WALK ALL THE WAY!!

Looking back, this was actually one the most fun and memorable new yr's eve which i had experienced. Setting up hammocks, crowding around a camp fire, cooking, chatting, laughing... it was a great time to bond with my camp mates.

Only complaint wld be the sandflies and watever fucking flying pests which was gathering ard us. Swatting merely encouraged their interest in me, and the more i swung my arms in desperate and hopeless self-defense, the more they were attracted by the commotion, flying in to "join in the fun", while sucking a generous amount of blood from my skin...

Also spent a short while talking to one of my men, who was pretty homesick and felt that it wasn't fair that he was away from home during the festive season. Did my best to comfort him, telling him to steer clear of such thoughts, because i knew that way madness lay. Nothing was fair or unfair. This was how the universe worked. As soldiers, we work at a pace that knew no hours, no limits....

Which was, of cos, according to my man, was bullshit of the highest order......

ARghh.. incorrigible bastard!
