GONE TOO SOON...

On the night of 30th January 2005, Mohammad Rufie, age 20, a former warrior of Alpha Platoon 3, was involved in a motorbike accident in J.B. Suffering internal injuries and slipping into a coma since, Rufie passed away on the 31st January 4pm.

What's there to say? After the phonecall from Kevin, I sat dumbfolded in the classroom. I was Rufie's direct superior in the army. And for the past 2 years I couldn't have asked for a more dedicated bunch of men whom I grew to trust and rely on. I wished this was all a dream. Not quite knowing what to do, or even feel, I took a piece of paper and started writing... Its crap.. It has no literacy value. I just wrote what I felt.

Gone Too Soon

No one lives forever,
Who would want to?
But at the age of 20,
You're too soon gone, gone too soon.

Time sweeps me forward,
as memory is caught.
Through the hell we went,
to the the blood we shed.
Always remembered, never forgotten.

NS done, everyone back to a normal life.
Going their separate ways,
Finding their special paths.
Always missed, never forgotten.

Don't tell me God needed another angel in heaven.
That won't alleviate any of my grief.
I'd learnt not to cry in front of anyone,
I'd learnt to hold them back.
But you are too soon gone, gone too soon.

And while I was walking to the carpark, I looked up at the sky. It was pitch black, except for one solitary star, which was shining brightly.

For a moment there, I thought I saw you.

You found your place up there, didn't you?

Fear Factor Couples' Challenge.

(Kenny & Michael were watching AXN's re-run of Fear Factor where some female contestant was thrash-talking with another girl over her very super-sized boobs...)

Michael: I don't get it, with fake boobs... It's the same as squeezing a bag of plastic right? What's the thrill??
Kenny: Tell you what. You go squeeze a bag of plastic, while I go squeeze her boobs. Then we'll see who gets more thrilled??

SENSATIONAL!!!

Wayne Rooney scored two stunning second-half goals to fire Manchester United into the FA Cup fifth round and leave Middlesbrough gasping in disbelief.

Four months after his amazing debut-day hat-trick against Fenerbahce, the England striker left Mark Schwarzer bemused with a clinical chip before smashing a first-time volley into the top corner which the Boro keeper did not have a prayer of keeping out.

Rooney's stunning late efforts eclipsed what looked sure to be a man-of-the-match display from fellow teenager Cristiano Ronaldo, who toyed with the Teessiders for over an hour and producing a masterclass which left a capacity crowd purring in appreciation.

Best Friend of the Year 2005

Maybe it's due to the lack of (or actually, its zero) competition, but John Guk has emerged as Kenny's Best Friend of the Year.

Remember John Guk?? The really vain chap whom I once said," I swear if someone breaks into your house, you would go put on your flashiest shirt, style your hair for 30 bloody minutes, check your smile in the mirror for that one last time and tie up your stupid shoelaces before tackling the intruder."

Yup. That's John for you. But he has been a really great pal for the past few years, especially in recent weeks, taking time off his busy Sunday schedule of doing nothing to help me with my school video production.

And on early Wednesday morning, 3am to be precise, he called to ask if I was o-k-a-y.

Apparently he read my previous blog entry and he thought that I was depressed and was going to quit school and go abroad.

No no no!! Oh my God. haha.. Haiya, did I sound that depressive??

Well, what I really meant was that I wanted to go on a holiday. hahaha. Or an exchange programme. And I just felt that I was not as passionate about my school work as I ought to be.

Sometimes I feel like a styrofoam toy plane. Launched into the air with so much force, pieces of the looser parts fly off whilst the main body continues to be hurled throught the air without wings.

And as Mitch Albom wrote in Tuesdays with Morrie, "So many people walk around with a meaningless life. They seem half-asleep, even when they're busy doing things they think are important. This is because they're chasing the wrong things. The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning."

I need a purpose. Or maybe a life. =)

And oh, Model-To-Be (MTB) actually complimented me on my driving on Thursday. She left a little note on my windscreen which said "Parking Fine. Baaahhh!!!". So that was nice.

And I cajoled (not much persuasion needed) MTB to skip her project meeting to go catch a movie, grab a bite ( she grabbed more than a few BITEs..) and visit the infamous Carpark H of East Coast Park. (sighzz.. It is not her FIRST time there!! hahaha) and no lar, we were there to look around only. =)

And we somehow ended up at my old home in Bedok. Sitting on the playground swing, looking at the stars and talking for what may have been several months.

I had a great time last night.

I liked Model-To-Be. I liked spending time with her.

She made me laugh alot. I made her laugh sometimes.

AND...In her very own words, she is going to be "a FHM bikini model!!!"

*Stiffers laughter*

The difference between NUS and SMU???

Hey folks, sorry for MIA-ing again! But I had been pretty busy with a school project last week so yeah... Sorry. =)

And yup. It's back to presentations and projects galore here at SMU (singapore management university) again. Another season of "action-packed, explosive-filled" semester being swept up in a maelstrom of immediacy.

I remembered sometime last week while I was busy drawing inspirations and ideas for my Creative Thinking project, I was talking to my NUS (national university of singapore) friend and she commented that she thought SMU projects seemed "really fun and interesting." , to which I laughed incredulously and said "Yeah, but you will die faster here in SMU..."

She smiled. "But it's better than NUS, where you will be subjected to a slow and excruciating death."

Anyway, there's a song that is stuck in my head at the moment. "The World At Large" by Modest Mouse. This song was used at the ending of the OC season 2 episode 7, where Marissa came over to the Cohens after Jimmy had left Newport.

This song isn't the kind of song that will rule the radio charts or anything..but it worked really well for the scene... very poignant.

And it kinda suits my mood at the moment... Happy sad.

I like songs about drifters - books about the same.
They both seem to make me feel a little less insane.
Walked on off to another spot.
I still haven't gotten anywhere that I want.
Did I want love? Did I need to know?
Why does it always feel like I'm caught in an undertow?

I was telling Lilin that I wanted to go to the States. That I wanted to go to France. That I wanted to leave this place for a little while...and I asked her to come with me.

She thought I was blabbering. I thought I was blabbering.

Then I realised that I meant what I just said.

The Chinese New Year Duel.

The sms exchange was brief. The date has been set. I have nothing but revenge on my mind.

Flashback(Jan 2004):(done in Kill Bill stylo mylo style.)

Exactly one year ago, my 14 year old cousin had challenged me to a game of chinese chess during house visiting, which I shrugged and said "why not".

But deep down I was actually secretly arrogant and confident because although I'm a jack of all trades master of none (or to put it bluntly "Good for nothing"), I like to think of myself as a pretty darn good chinese chess player.

After all, I did finish third in a chinese chess competion held in Dunman High. Albeit that was many many many years ago, I was looking forward to teaching my little cousin a little lesson on the wonderful game of chinese chess.

But the smile soon fell from my face and the next 30 minutes was a complete nightmare. One by one, my pieces were driven off the board.(think tsunami)

It was a bravura display of merciless attack chess. His moves had real depth and power.

I was utterly outclassed. One nil. Two nil. Three nil.

Each time that it was my turn, there always seemed to be only one move which I could make, and it usually lead to more of my pieces being eaten up.

Despite losing big time, I guess I still love playing chinese chess la.

What I like about chess is that it's open. Everything is out there on the board, that if there's a problem, the answer will inevitably be staring you in the face, that the trick is simply to think hard enough.

Not quite like life and relationships, where facts and feelings can be concealed, where there can be information which you are not given, which can be very frustrating and confusing.

Unlike life, there's nowhere to lie or hide on the chessboard, is there?

One of my classmates told me that she dreamt about me last night. She dreamt that she gave me a present which I threw into the dustbin. She became angry and left. And after she left I went to retrieve the present.

This is strange. Firstly, she has a boyfriend. Secondly we aren't really very close friends.

And what makes this whole episode more bizarre is that I had a very bad night sleeping as well. I kept waking up in the middle of the night and I was experiencing very strange dreams. ( such as me being back in the army and seeing someone being punished.)

Spooky eh?

Condom testing reveals best brands

I received this pretty interesting Reuters link from a friend and it’s actually about how a consumer group best known for rating cars and washing machines turned its testing prowess to condoms to find out which ones measure up best.

And the results showed that the top brand, which was able to take the most punishment, was the Durex Extra Sensitive Lubricated Latex. Other top-performers include the Durex Performax Lubricated, Lifestyles Classic Collection Ultra Sensitive Lubricated and TheyFit Lubricated.

And for those Singapore guys who think that SAF-issued condoms are the worst, well, there are worse condoms around. A melon-colored model distributed by Planned Parenthood performed the worst, bursting during a test in which the latex condoms were filled with air.

And apparently, to pass the test, the condom is filled with air till you end up with a balloon of 3 feet (a metre) tall and a foot (30 cm) wide.

That is literally what you call one hell of a B-L-O-W job??

What's the point of having a 5.0 megapixel camera???

I tried my best to salvage it with Photoshop and PhotoImpact.

But nevertheless, it was still a lovely night of spitting and nonsensical fun. And Budak Pantai of course... =P

UNITED WE LOSE

I am a Manchester United fan. A fairly unabashed one. When they win, I get a lift. When they lose, no lift.

So when they signed Wayne Rooney at the start of the season and when he scored a sensational hat-trick on his debut, I became envisioning sitting at some pub come next May cheering on the Red Devils as they complete the treble once again.

But NOoo noo no. *shakes head*

They are now 12 points behind Chelsea. Ryan Giggs' doesn't have a contract extension. Ruud Van Nistelrooy is sidelined till mid February, ditto for Louis Saha, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.... Oh man, help, that guy has been injured for the past 2 years.

BUT besides the injuries, where's the teamwork and attacking flair that Man Utd is famous for? These days the team is depending on individual flashes of magic from players like Giggs and Scholes to sneak in a goal.

And when these star players aren't performing, the team tries to force everything, both offensively and defensively.

And yesterday, the Red Devils drew goaless at Old Trafford against Exeter, a team comprising of part-timers, a team that can't even make it to the Third Division. A team that has to buy their own boots.

THAT says it all, doesn't it?

FIRST WEEK BACK IN SCHOOL

One and a half months of mindless bumming and slacking around. And just one hour in school to remember how stressful SMU can be..Sigh. Life's a bitch man.

But at least it's nice to see those familiar faces again. It makes school so much more bearable.

And it helps that there has been quite a few fun moments in class. Take for example my Business Law class. My prof. asked," If you find your lecturer extremely boring and is a turnoff and you decide to go home and complain and insult him/her on the internet, what is it called?"

Without thinking, I blurted out "Blogging".

Well apparently, in the world of Business Law, the correct term to use is DEFAMATION.

****
And in my Managerial Accounting class, my prof. asked us to introduce ourselves one by one and to state "something interesting which we did during the Dec. holidays."

Most of us stated the usual stuff like working part-time or going overseas until we reached this Indonesian guy...

Indonesian: I went back to Indonesia during the holidays.
Prof: Oh. Anything interesting?
Indonesian: Hmmm.. earthquake lor.
