Slyvester Sim, the jay walker.

I found this amusing really.

On Saturday, Slyvester Sim was at Tampines Mall being mobbed by hundreds of screaming fans, with security personnels forming human walls to protect the popstar. Fans who have to BUY his CD to have a 5-second opportunity for an autograph and a quick snapshot.

Less than 24 hours later, I was driving into the small lane at Victoria Concert hall and who do I see standing at the roadside waiting to jaywalk?

Yup, that's right. Mr. Slyvester Sim!

No bodyguards, no personal assistant, no limounsine, no paparazzi.

Just him and his cigarette.

And people actually queued for hours to see him yesterday?

( Anyway, Girlfriend wanted me to offer him a lift since "he looked pitiful walking along the Padang in the hot sun." I thought that was nice and imagine having a Singapore Idol finalist in your car? BUT then i remembered that the Girlfriend's family spent $200 supporting him. So ya, no way was I going to let my girlfriend fall for a rockstar in my car. No bloody way. haha. )

Singapore's youngest busker

This boy is six years old. He is bloody good with the drums (for his age). And he is earning money performing on the streets of Orchard Road.

AND he even got the attention of Fiona oh-my-goodness Xie who was gushing about him.

To top it off, I think the TV crew got a pretty good shot of me oggling at Fiona oh-my-goodness Xie.

Her chest is like damn distracting lah.

***
Anyway, does anybody has a job opening for me??? Me is damn broke. Maintaining a car AND a girlfriend is killing me!!! hahahaha.

Thenceforth, I need to WORK.

Work is the sentence everyone has to do. It is imposed on you at birth and ticks down to the moment you retire. Everyone has to work, unless you are Bill Gates, Richard Branson or Roman Abramovich. Or Paris Hilton. So rich that you won't get out of bed for anything less than a million dollars.

But I am not.

Thenceforth, I need to WORK.

It's more fun being the bad guy

I kinda realised that after watching Ocean's Twelve DVD this afternoon.

Granted, it's a not-so-good sequel to Ocean's Eleven but still, the movie is an epitome of cool and there's nothing quite so beautiful as a clever criminal plan isn't it?

I mean, those well-thought-through, well-rehearsed well-executed plans... It's like an art form unto itself can? haha.. It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand. I don't know, but there is just something about it that doesn't compare with everyday life.

And sure, a good idea is a good idea, even a legal one, and I would take my hat off to any entrepreneur who can make a million bucks out of a new way to open a jar of sardines, but it is just not in the same league of brilliance as a good criminal idea isn't it?

Because besides brains and imagination, which you need for any idea, you need one other vital ingredient for your criminal idea- Balls, big balls...

And THAT makes all the difference.

( And oh, more importantly, the mark of a truly great plan (and this is where Danny Ocean and his crew suceeds) is that you have to get away with it. Anything less and you might as well just walk into POSB bank with a water pistol...)

Closing Time

So there you have it. The last day of varsity life at the Bukit Timah campus.

And in a few months time, we would be schooling at the new splashy ultra-fashionable happening metropolitan city campus.

I should be really excited.

But a big part of me feels pretty much attached to this old campus. It may be small and the facilities are like pathetic, but the environment is great. Fresh air, lush greenery, Victorian buildings... And life in SMU thus far has been pretty good.

SMU is pretty unique for its strong emphasis on projects, and some people detest it. After all, we all know the the toils and tribulations of doing projects. It's a cacophonic mess of delight, perplexity and pain-- The agony and ectasy of having project mates from hell and the immense satisfaction of doing great for your project.

And the first few weeks of school have been pretty nerve-wrecking for me. Because I knew SMU students were expected to be vocal and active in classes. I mean c'mmon, class participation constitutes like twenty freakin' percent of your overall grades. And it can be very intimidating when your fellow classmates exhibit immense ease and confidence in speaking up on the first day of school

But I guess that's the way SMU evaluate their students here-- it's everybody into the discussion pool, sink or swim.

Although sad to say, my contribution to class discussions this semester has been nothing short of dismal. Haha, my professors must have thought that I was mute or something.

But in my defense, I would like to say that my lack of input in discussions is actually due to my good manners and not because of a complete utter lack of interest in the subjects. ( As if! )

As for this Bukit Timah campus, I think the one thing which I will miss most is the school library, since I spent quite a bulk of my time in there.

Some background information here: Comprising of three storeys, the first 2 storeys are for muggers to worship their lecture notes while the 3rd storey is, how-shall-I-put-this, a mini fashion show?

Haha. I mean it's true. On the 3rd storey, you do more people-watching then getting your work done.

Sure, there are students who go to the 3rd floor to study, but there they have to look pretty and hot while studying.

And seriously, it's not rare to see a girl in mini-skirt and stilettos, and full make-up and hairstyle at 9am on a Monday... Actually, come to think of it, that's pretty much the trend in SMU...

Fashion first, then school.

23hrs 56mins 24s...

My face is pressed flat up against the window until my poor nose becomes a snort-like smudge on it's surface.

Outside this window lies freedom.

Just a mere 24 hours before my final paper is over.

Then, it will be a short getaway till Saturday.

Life is good!

Human Brains-- Our only resource in Singapore.

Like most everyone else in Singapore, I was raised to meet a certain standard.

My mom expected me to ace through college and university, where I'd make straight A's, be an accomplished swimmer and spend my free time playing the piano.

My inability to swim straight was exceeded only by my inability to master the piano. ( very relieved neighbours ). My grades are slightly above average at best, and eventually, I think mum and dad are learning to live with their disappointment that their son wasn't going to be an MP or lawyer blah blah.

Sometimes I wish University education isn't the surest way to a secure and comfortable future.

Then I wouldn't be pathetically praying to the Gods of speed-reading now to bestow upon me the gift of flash-reading so as to finish my Business Law and Managerial Accounting revisions.

Sometimes I wish I could lead a simple life, where I could perhaps learn a trade and take pride in my ability to, for example, shingle roofs or knock the dents out of cars.

There is certainly no shame in working with your hands and returning home at night to a glass of ice water and the satisfaction that you had brightened someone's afternoon by repairing their air-con units.

Lots of people do things like that.

You may not have read their names in Foebes or Business Times, but still they are out there, day after day, giving it all they have.

But sadly, life in Singapore is pretty much the degrees, the 4-Ds and the 5 Cs isn't it...

Cruel Irony

I want to speak for a moment about the hilarity of exams/tests. Perhaps "Cruel irony" would be more appropriate. Do you know how during the days preceding the tests/finals, you're generally freaking out about them. Then the day of the test comes and you're like "Whatever, just get it over and done with."

So you are working your way through the test and you're thinking,"Okay, this MA test isn't so bad after all, although a shred of doubt might remain.

Time. Pens down, papers in. You're glad that the test/exam is over. Heck, you'll even go so far as to feel you did quite well on it.

4,5 days later, you get your MA results back. Dude, you got 15 out of 30. What exactly were you feeling good about??

Walking

All I ask is that people walk in a straight line. What is with all the bobbing and weaving? Do they even realize there are other people around them - some of whom might like to get past them?

Is it too much to ask for a little awareness of others and an effort (that's all I want, just an effort!) to walk in a straight line to your destination? A straight line is the most direct route anywhere. Think of it as an efficiency and time saving thing. Can?

Just now at lunchtime, I got off the CompassPoint carpark and headed for the escalator. I was supposed to meet my parents at 1.30pm and I was pretty late so I thought I should hurry.

But fate has it that I got stuck behind this woman whom I swear had radar or something. Every move I made, she blocked. I couldn't get past her to save my life. She was oblivious until I went flying past her at the top of the escalator.

I refrained from knocking her down - but just barely.

( Kenny is so going to throw a bitch-fit!! Grrr. )

If only...

A new study shows says that having sex reduces our chances of getting a cold. The more sex you have, the less you will have a cold. Just wait till guys get hold of this. A woman sneezes and he'll be saying,"Hey, I got something for that.

Zero physical attraction

Nothing. Nada. Zippo.

Won't matter how many hours I spend practising or studying.

It's just not gonna happen.

I hate Managerial Accounting. Argh.
