Not quite sure if he is the top class goalkeeper whom Man Utd is looking for, but I guess it epitomises the financial state of the Red Devils-- Dismal.
How sad. To be the "richest" team in the world, and yet unable to wrestle financially with the likes of Real Madrid and Chelsea.
And let's face it. The club badly needs a major overhaul. Manchester United aren't the invincible red crushing machine of a few years ago.
Thanks to years of ridiculous buys like Veron and Bellion, they look like a disjointed assembly of a few great talents and many mediocre players, huffing and puffing but getting nowhere.
How many bad buys have Sir Alex made in recent years? Countles. The likes of Kleberson, Djembab-Djemba, Liam Miller, Roy Carroll...They are all so bad that they re-define that very term. But the worst of the lot has to be David Bellion
When Bellion was signed, we were told he was the new Thierry Henry.
RIGHT.
Bellion should have been sold by now - or given away, anything so long as he fucks off - but for the broken leg he suffered in the final reserve game of the season. Unbelievably bad luck - for the club!
But it isn't just the bad buys, Roy Keane and Ryan Giggs are getting too old to compete at the highest levels. Like old prize fighters, they dragged themselves up for the big fights with Arsenal, but wither unexpectedly against the likes of Norwich, seemingly sapped of their energy.
Perhaps the more worrying thing is that it will take way more money than is available to correct these problems. A creative midfielder, holding midfielder, left winger and at least one top-class striker to buy, how can that be funded?
There are cheap and talented young players all over the world. Arsene Wenger has shown this by making some shrewd buys. The likes of Van Persie and Fabregas are out there. The annoying bit is that Sir Alex doesn't seem to be able to find them.
However, if there's any consolation, Man Utd does have some promising youngsters in the Reserves squad.(They won the Reserves League by the way.)
The likes of David Fox, Pique, Jonathan Spector are definitely players for the future.
And I think we might just have an Arjen Robben in the reserves as well.
His name? Giuseppe Rossi.
Watch this Video of him. Sublime skills and an eye for special goals. ( video 10mb, courtesy of MUSC France)
