In the wake of the earthquake and Tsunami on December 26 which claimed more than 20000 lives so far, I actually felt quite bad blogging so flippantl just now, especially when there are thousands out there who are grieving, or worrying anxiously about their loved ones.
So ya, my thoughts and prayers will definitely be with those affected.
And I'm thinking, while such disasters are certainly tragic, it certain puts lots of things into perspective. The US-Iraq invasion seemed so trivial and unnecessary. Countries like India, for all their money spent on developing their nuclear and military might, does not even have a tsunami warning mechanism to alert their own people and now, India is an entire broken city.
And according to the newspapers, the worst has yet to come. Given the contamination of the water supplies and the inept sanitary conditions, there is a real fear that diseases and possible epidemic break-outs are going to even outstrip the effects of the earthquake and the tsunami.
That's where we can make a difference.
If we, Singaporeans, can justify and afford to spend hundreds of dollars supporting the likes of Taulfik and Slyvester at the recent Singapore Idol competition, shouldn't the more we should contribute to the Tsunami relief funds???
And it isn't just monetary contributions that can be made. Biscuits, blankets and clothings can go a long way to helping those poor victims.
I know that the disaster has probably screwed up most people's party mood for the new year, but since Tsunami has already struck, we should stop sitting still doing nothing. Many people in those countries need help and they need it NOW. And to be honest, I can't think of a better way to end the festive season and usher in the new year then to help those in need.
( Monetary contibutions can be made at the Singapore Red Cross Home at Penang Lane. Do note that they only accept cash and cheques. Other forms of contributions such as blankets can be made at the respective Embassies. )

And on a slightly smaller scale, Budak Pantai is also doing their part for the Tsunami victimes. For their Jan 7 show at ( I presume YMCA rooftop ), they will be charging $25 (adults) and $15 (students) and the funds raised will be given to the necessary organisations to distribute as necessary.
